If we consider the cosmic spectrum, the average colour is green it is what the human eye would see if the observer could view all the light sources in the universe together. (1) Green is also becoming a very popular colour in web design.

Green was once seen as the symbol of fertility and was the preferred choice of wedding gowns. Nineteenth-Century English women believed if they dressed in green that they would become more pleasing to lovers. (2)
Green also considered having a positive effect on one’s health. In the 1920’s Doctors found that effects of insomnia could be minimised by using a green light in the patient’s room. (3) Doctors found that green light exerted a particularly soothing influence on the brain. Green has often been used in surgery walls to relax the eyes and complement the red hue of human blood and tissue. (4) The private health insurer NIB uses the colour green throughout their website.

Joy of Spring
Bright green was very popular after world war 1 in dress, interior design. Perhaps this confidence in green could be likened to the faith in the joy of spring following a dreary winter. The charity Voices for Children use the colour green and the renewal of spring as a source of inspiration.
Knowledge and wealth
The wearing of Green of gems will ‘put evil to flight’; it bestows knowledge and increases wealth (the US Dollar perhaps). (5) The website Groupon uses a lot of the colour green in their brand, as they are dealing directly with money. I use Xero for my accounting software. On the landing page (promotional page), they use green images as well a green buy now buttons. Evernote is one of my favourite note-taking applications, and it uses green in its logo and also to highlight its visual elements on its web page and applications.
