Typography: font selection
Spock is my favourite characters from Star Trek. If Spock were a designer what sort of Typography would appeal to him? This theoretical perspective interested me as Spock is a scientist rather than a creative. Typography design, choice, and selection would appeal to his intellect. There is a preciseness and attention to detail with typography that Spock loves.
1. Lenga
Lenga is a type of a beech tree that originates in the wilds of ‘Tierra del Fuego’. Like Spock, this font has a “distinctive personality with a contemporary atmosphere”. The various font faces have a nobility and robustness.
Uses
These fonts work well in headlines, subheadings and because of the way the text flows it is quite suitable for long documents.
2. Ortodoxa
Spock has always been ‘Orthodox’ meaning that he follows or conforms to the generally accepted rules or beliefs of a practice. Ortodoxa is a typeface that holds to the tradition of sans-serif without aiming to be different but rather looks for a fresh look for conventional letterforms.
Uses
This font is well suited for print or computer screens.
3. Linotype Didot
Spock has a presence tall, dark like this font he exudes strong, clear forms of this alphabet displaying objective, rational characteristics that are representative of the time and the philosophy of the French Enlightenment. The Didot families excelled as French printers and designers, during the 18th and 19th century.
Uses
Linotype Didot is a terrific choice as a web font.
4.NT Yaki
Spock is multi-layered his Vulcan and Human side battling for domination. He acknowledges these layers and is always wanting to reconcile them. Yaki has three sets of fonts. Yaki One is the plain version, Yaki Two and Yaki Three are separate fonts combining two layers with different colours.
Uses
This font is unique and would be a terrific place to start for a branding project. I am thinking a men’s cologne perhaps.
Magistral’s international flavour and Spock cosmopolitan sophistication are in perfect balance. Magistral is a tribute to his navigator, Pavel Andreievich Chekov (May he RIP). Dimitry Kirsanov designed Magistral he based it on the artworks of Moscow graphic designer Andrey Kryukov.
Uses
Magistral works well in advertising and display typography.

Colour Blue has always been my favourite colour. Apparently, I am in good company as blue is one of the most well-liked colours. It is the least gender specific having equal appeal to both men and women. Blue can affect us physically it calms and sedates, cools and aids intuition.
