According to the dictionary, ‘matte’ is an adjective that describes the texture of a surface. It simply means having a dull or lusterless surface. Matte finishes on photography are muted and less flashy. Matte photos tend to be better for less vibrant colour shots or monochrome shots. There is a reason that they are so popular as an Instagram filter.
