Ashley Byran makes words come alive with his illustrations.  His mission with his illustration is to help children and adults learn and appreciate the beauty of poetry; to know that it can outlast material things.

View sample of Nikki Giovanni’s book, “I am Loved”.  Nikki Giovanni is a poet of pride and through her writing, she makes the world a better place.

I sowed diamonds in my backyard

My bowels deliver uranium

the filings from my nails are

semi-precious jewels

On a trip north

I caught a cold and blew

My nose giving oil to the Arab world

I’m so hip that even my errors are

correct.

Giovanni’s poetry has always sought to lift and encourage African Americans to struggle against personal demons and injustice.  Every day I try to become aware of something that I do not know.
