Type, Typeface, and Font
In order to make sure you are using the correct creative font, it’s important to make sure you know the difference between type, typeface, typography, and font.
- Type is the term used for everything that goes into visual text. It originally referred to the metal or wood pieces that were used to create physical letters on printing presses and typewriters.
- The typeface is also called a font family. It is the alphabet designed so that all the letters and symbols fit together stylistically. Time New Roman, Minion, and Arial are all typefaces.
