There’s something so loaded with period drama and historical allure about bespoke train travel. Riding the rails, taking in the grand, awe-inspiring and majestic scenery of the West, lounging in sleeper cars and dining at white-linen-clad tables while the world whizzes by. And one Canadian company is now booking new luxury adventure experiences aboard the Rocky Mountaineer.

Whether you’ve always dreamed of heli-hiking in Banff National Park overlooking Lake Louise, of horseback riding through the Canadian Rockies, or of being pampered while going completely off the grid in a luxurious mountain lodge, the “carefully crafted journeys” are a “balance of riveting excitement and total relaxation…tailored to even the most refined travel palettes.” (Yes to all of the above, please and thank you.)

Southern Living recently previewed the three new experience packages now available to book for 2019 — along with some steep discounts — which all include train time aboard the Rocky Mountaineer line, all of whose cars feature glass domes for ultimate scenery-peeping and Instagramming potential. Or as the company says itself, the adventures are for those who want to see “…the best sights in the Canadian Rockies without using roads, gasoline or Google maps.”

If none of the pre-planned experiences strikes your fancy, the company also offers a sort of DIY/a la carte option along the four routes in Western Canada, where you can mix and match train rides and boat rides to create the misty mountain majesty and historic coastal passage loop of your Gold Rush-era fantasies. You can even add on an Alaskan cruise, if that floats your, er, boat.

Rocky Mountaineer’s best-selling packages for week-long excursions start at around $2,000 per person, with significant promotional discounts currently in effect for 2019 bookings. If you need more convincing, just check out the company’s Instagram for some serious glamping gorgeousness.
