The final trailer for Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is here, and there’s *plenty* to unpack for this much-anticipated sequel, so let’s get to it.
First, we have a pregnant Sophie, who still lives on the island of Kalokairi in Greece, running her mom’s villa. It’s easy to assume that Donna is dead, but it’s still technically unconfirmed. Sophie, now very much in her mother’s young and pregnant shoes, tries to remember all the lessons Donna taught her through her own pregnancy.
The crew is planning some sort of party (an engagement party maybe?) so Tanya and Rosie come to town, along with all three of Sophie’s potential dads.
Through flashbacks (using younger versions of the four characters), the movie tells the story of how each of the men met Donna back in 1979. It’s revealed that Donna ended up on the island after graduating college because she wanted to “fall off the end of the world.”
Fast forward to the present, and Sophie’s ~mysterious~ grandmother arrives via helicopter to the island (even though she wasn’t invited to whatever party the characters are throwing). Not-so-spoiler alert: it’s Cher. She wants to commit to being a grandmother. In the trailer, Cher sings a glorious ABBA tune, Fernando, and hopefully there’s more where that came from in the full movie.
Watch the trailer above for more spoilers, cute moments, hot dads, etc. Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again hits theaters this summer.
