My nurse and I – Frida Kahlo (1937)

Nurse and I - Frida Kahlo

Kahlo as an infant nursing at the breast of her indigenous wet nurse. Kahlo’s mother was unable to breastfeed her because her sister Cristina was born just 11 months after her. The wet nurse was fired because of drinking on the job. The relationship between them seems to be clinical and cold. This image was used in a blog post, “Frida Kahlo — symbolism and metaphor”
