(Reblog) How To Photograph Seascapes

Photographing the sea and the waves can be both challenging and fun. People often ask me what "the right settings" are to shoot moving water so I decided to write a little guide on it. There are many options depending on what look you're going for.

The boathouse – colour palette

William Glackens debt to the Impressionists can be seen in the intense colours, the energetic brushwork and textured surface.   I call this the boathouse.

Country cool – colour palette

Lush green, wheat yellow and rust brown star in this rural-inspired colour scheme that is quite contemporary.  I call it Country Cool.

Northern Lights – colour palette

Northern lights are a result of the collision of gaseous particles in the Earth's atmosphere.  This palette I created from the deep and cosmic colours of a photo taken in Estonia. I have called it Aurora.

Monet the magpie – colour palette

The Magpie was one of Monet's early attempts at capturing the effects of snow on the landscape.  This palette is called the Magpie.

16 travel illustrations from the 1960’s

I created these illustrations from a number of old newspapers from the 1960's.  The images have been isolated from travel sections of newspapers.  They are lovely and clean when viewed on their own.
